The Heritage Speech & Debate Program strives to empower the next generation of communicators, critical thinkers, and leaders through competitive events that build confidence, sharpen reasoning, and encourage civic engagement. Students in this program will challenge themselves while constructing a sophisticated foundation for future academic and professional success.

Our Speech & Debate family comprises over 100 young minds that work together to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community, a community in which every student has access to an environment that supports open discourse, free speech, and the continuous flow of ideas.
From $500 to nationals.
The Heritage Speech & Debate Program was founded in 2020 by its longest-serving Head Coach, Mr. Joshua Cauley, and a small group of dedicated students. In its inaugural season, the program raised and spent less than $500, a figure that seems almost unimaginable today.
One tournament at a time, the program grew in size and strength, reaching 50 competitors by 2022 and raising over $4,000 that same season. In 2024, the program sent its first-ever competitor to TOC Nationals in Kentucky, marking its transition to a nationally-competitive team.
In 2025, the program sent two competitors to the CHSSA State Championship, its first appearance at States. Both students placed in the top 12 in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, a remarkable achievement. In 2026, the program sent three competitors to TOC Nationals and one competitor to States.
By this time, the program had raised and spent over $20,000 annually and boasted over 100 competitors competing in local, state, and national tournaments (including the Cal Invitational at UC Berkeley), bringing home over 80 trophies and accolades that same season.
